Why the turn?įor the next week, the WWE will hype up the attack and ask why Edge did it to set up a backroom promo by Edge next week. We doubt the WWE wouldn’t have amplified them if given the chance, but accidentally toning them down is a possibility. While the shock factor was there and Edge was booed, it didn’t come across the broadcast as loud as it could’ve or should’ve been. The exact same way they’ve done a heel turn for the last few years. There’s no logic to it and was meant to show us, and the WWE will retroactively explain thing next week. In this scenario, Edge attacked first after coming to the ring as a face with high fives and patting kids on the head. Since Styles isn’t a young buck, Edge could’ve felt like his position is being threatened and then begin to attack Styles. One thing the WWE has always been good at was giving up heel turns we didn’t expect, and on the latest Raw we got a couple and the biggest made no sense as to why.Įdge has been the epitome of a face as he’s been open to facing anyone and hasn’t gone to the dark or Brood side of his character unless it’s been personal like against Randy Orton or the Miz.īut after AJ Styles came out to accept his WrestleMania challenge, Edge sucker punched him and hit a low blow when Styles turned the tables.Įdge then hammered away on him and hit two con-chair-tos to close the show as he went full heel.įor no reason other than to shock fans and give the match a heel.Īfter building Styles up to a respectful face, it would’ve made more sense to have them shake hands without a double cross, then build the tension over the next few weeks as they each take offense at the other thinking they’re better.
